What happens to me?

You may be able to distinguish the baby's knee or foot from an elbow, even though the movements are smaller. You may also notice small movements that appear to be rhythmic in your uterus. Hiccups from the baby are usually the cause of this. This is normal and should be nothing to worry about. There are also now almost two pints of amniotic fluid in your uterus.

How much will I be showing?

Your uterus is a little over 5 inches from your belly button. You are gaining about 1 pound a week, largely because the baby is likely to gain more than half its birth weight during the 7 weeks before delivery. By now you should have gained anywhere from 22-28 pounds.

What happens to baby?

There is now a coating in the interior of the baby's lungs, which will help the baby breathe after birth. Therefore, if the baby is born after this week, there is much less risk of developing breathing problems. Though the lungs will not be fully developed until just before birth, the baby is inhaling amniotic fluid to exercise the lungs and practice breathing.

How big is the baby?

The baby weighs about 4 1/2 pounds. The crown to rump length is around 12 inches and the head to toe length is a little over 19 inches.

Tip of the Week

In most cases, false labor contractions are irregular and usually last less than 45 seconds.
