What happens to me?

You may find yourself with a stuffy nose. Nasal congestion and nosebleeds are fairly common during pregnancy. Try using a vaporizer or humidifier to help lessen the symptoms. You will continue to feel tired, nauseated, and possibly dizzy.

You may be experiencing mood swings. If you find yourself laughing or crying for no apparent reason, or overreacting to a simple situation, don’t be alarmed. It is just your hormones talking. Due to the change in the quantity of hormones in your body brought about by your pregnancy, you may be feeling a lot more emotional than you normally do. Do not hesitate to get the help you feel you need right now, especially if you are feeling extremely depressed or suicidal. Contact your doctor or an Adoption Specialist at 1-800-ADOPTION right away.

How much will I be showing?

You will have started to gain a few more pounds and you may be noticing a change in your figure. Your breasts have likely grown large enough that you will need bigger bras with better support than your old ones. You may notice your waistline expanding as well, forcing you to pack away your favorite jeans until next year.

What happens to baby?

Your embryo is now called a fetus, which means "little one." Your uterus expands to accommodate its new resident. Many changes take place this week as the embryonic tail is gone and all organs, muscles, and nerves are beginning to function. The hands now bend at the wrist, and the feet begin to lose their webbed appearance. Eyelids are beginning to cover the eyes.

Gonads have become testes (for boys) or ovaries (for girls). While you won’t be able to feel the baby yet, the baby will move away if touched through the uterine wall, and can spontaneously move as well. Ossification (hardening) of the bones continues.

How big is the baby?

The baby is approximately 1 - 1 ¼ inches long and weighs only 1 gram, or about as much as a paperclip.

Tip of the Week

Use caution when using over-the-counter cough and cold remedies as they can contain up to 25% alcohol!
